Ithaca Planner Angela O’Neill Tackles Annuity Ambiguity
[Ithaca, NY] Strebel Planning Group financial advisor Angela O’Neill discussed fixed index annuities in a Senior Market Advisor magazine (www.seniormarketadvisor.com) article, a nationally distributed trade publication for the financial-services industry. Fixed index annuities (FIAs) are comprehensive, long-term financial-planning products which offer investors protection in down markets and are often “linked” to a major stock-market index.
“Annuities have a place in some portfolios,” said O’Neill. “Concepts such as guaranteed death benefits, living benefits and an income stream for life allow the more conservative client to fully invest in the market with downside protection and offer tax-deferred growth.” Annuities however, are relatively complex products and potential investors need to fully understand what they’re investing in when considering one. “Fully understanding the product before signing on the dotted line usually helps eliminate potential future problems,” said O’Neill who’s been advising investors since 1998.
